Why our donuts are superior

Special D Baking produces a consistently high-quality product with a staff specifically trained to produce just donuts. We have the facility, the capacity and the flexibility that enables us to supply large volumes and meet the specific requirements of our customers. The frozen donut program eliminates the need for expensive equipment such as donut fryers, exhaust hoods, fire suppression systems and makeup air units. The program eliminates the mess, the risk, and the cleanup associated with deep fryers.

Special D Baking has been producing donut shop quality donuts since 1977 and is proud of our steady growth in supplying North America with our products.

The people of Special D Baking are hired and trained specifically to produce donuts. They understand the process and are required to work from the start (mixing), to the picking (sheeting), to the feeding (frying), and finally to the packaging (freezing). All of the staff contributes to the quality of the product and the cleanliness of the facility. They are proud of our successes and take complaints personally. The average employee has been with Special D Baking for seven years, their commitment to our company helps ensure that the high quality of our product is maintained and that problems get solved before the become complaints.

How we make magic happen

At Special D Baking we mix four bags of flour at a time. The dough is then headed out in equal portions that are allowed to table ferment. This process ensures proper mixing times, thorough mixing, and time for the donut to form properly. The individual heads are then sheeted, cut and handpicked.The blast freezing process freezes the shell or skin of the donut first as it is bombarded with -40 degree F air. Then, as the product continues through the tunnel, it is frozen to the core. This traps the moisture in the product and thereby maintains the quality and freshness.
